Sustainability Day 2024 @ZHAW

Sustainability Day on Monday, 18 March 2024, at the ZHAW School of Management and Law - by students for students.

Nourishing our World - Preserving our Future

This year's Sustainability Day on 18 March 2024 will focus on topics that have a significant impact on reducing our ecological footprint. Join us to learn more about four SDGs: "Zero Hunger," "Quality Education," "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure," and "Responsible Consumption and Production."

Event Information

Date: Monday, 18 March 2024, 9 am - 9 pm

Location: Building SW (Volkartgebäude), St. Georgen-Platz 2, 8401 Winterthur

Participants: The event is open to everyone: ZHAW students from all departments, ZHAW employees, and interested external parties

Cost: Free participation in all workshops, presentations, information stands, and aperitifs

Important: Participant numbers for workshops and the evening program are limited. Register now to avoid disappointment.

Morning Program

9.00 am – 12 noon: Sustainable Info Fair

Interactive stands about sustainable initiatives, entertaining games, and enlightening presentations - the morning program is varied and informative. At the Sustainable Info Fair, we want to immerse you in a dynamic and enriching experience that encourages a deeper understanding and appreciation of environmentally conscious practices in everyday life.

Afternoon Program

1.00 pm – 4.00 pm: Workshops

Workshop 1: Sustainable Smoothies

Times: 1.00 - 1.45 pm or 2.30 - 3.15 pm
Number of Participants: Max. 15 per session
Location: SW 325
Workshop Leader: Franziska Füchslin
This workshop offers a mix of fun and healthy treats! Find out which regional products you can use to prepare healthy and sustainable smoothies - even from kitchen leftovers.

Workshop 2: Basket Weaving

Times: 1.00 - 1.45 pm or 2.30 - 3.15 pm
Number of Participants: Max. 15 per session
Location: SW 326
Workshop Leaders: Marie-Anne Gindely and Severine Spross

Basket weaving from newspaper: create your own basket as a storage container for home use.

Workshop 3: PRME Global Students

Time: 3.00 - 4.00 pm
Number of Participants: Max. 20
Location: SW 225
Workshop Leader: Lazar Tomasevic

Would you like to join a United Nations initiative and work together with students from all over the world to promote sustainability? Are you looking for international projects to develop your management and leadership skills? Learn how you can benefit from joining the PRME Global Students Network and apply to become PGS Regional Leaders and Taskforce Members.

Workshop 4: Sustainable Care Products

Times: 2.00 - 2.45 pm or 3.00 - 3.45 pm
Number of Participants: Max. 20 per session
Location: SW 226
Workshop Leader: Sandra Hubmann

This workshop will give you an insight into what you need to consider when choosing sustainable skin care products and introduce you to an exemplary alternative for you to experience.

Evening Program

The evening will begin with an aperitif and background music. Following this, representatives of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), the Roger Federer Foundation, and PRME will participate in a panel discussion. In addition, the companies Klimatopf and Climeworks will provide fascinating insights into their start-ups based on sustainable innovations.

A maximum of 200 people can take part in the evening program – first come, first served. We look forward to seeing you there!

4.30 - 6.00 pm: Welcome Aperitif & Music

6.00 - 6.50 pm: “Education for All” – a discussion about quality and equal opportunities

The importance of quality education will be the topic of this panel discussion - particularly education in disadvantaged regions and the associated provision of equal opportunities for all. Our expert panelists will share their specific insights and inspiration for the joint implementation of “Quality Education” as a sustainable goal.

The panel discussion will be held in English.

Keynote Speech “Klimatopf”
Time: 7.00 - 7.30 pm
Speaker: Franziska Stöckli
The presentation will be held in German.

Franziska Stöckli is a primary and secondary school teacher with a special interest in education and social issues. She is a course leader and works in teacher training and further education, as well as being co-author of the textbook/cookbook “Greentopf.” Her talk will focus on SDG 12, “Responsible Consumption and Production.”

Keynote Speech “Climeworks”
Time:
7.30 - 8.00 pm
Speaker: Ronny Roggli, Climate Policy Manager
The presentation will be held in English.

Ronny Roggli will focus on SDG 9, “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” – presenting an innovative technology that makes a valuable contribution to the net-zero target. Swiss company Climeworks is a world leader in technology for separating carbon dioxide (CO2) from ambient air.

8.00 - 9.00 pm: Closing Aperitif
