Ursula Graf-Hausner completed her diplomas in biology and chemistry at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, in 1976 and received her Dr. phil II in biochemistry from the University of Zürich in 1981. In the following years she worked as a teacher in Winterthur and as research scientist for biotechnology in Sandoz AG, Basel. Since 1990 she has been professor of micro- and cell biology in the University of Applied Sciences Winterthur ZHW. She had a sabbatical leave at Novartis Pharma AG in cell biology in 1997. 1999 to 2001 she was head of research and development in the department of chemistry and biotechnology of the ZHW and since 2001 she is vice president in the Swiss BioteCHnet, the national Network of Excellence of the Universities of applied Sciences of Switzerland. A second sabbatical leave in Seattle, USA in 2004 enabled her to start research projects in the field of dental regeneration with adult stem cells.
Current research interests involve cell and tissue culture technology and tissue engineering. Several r&d-projects in the field of biomolecule production, development and application of biomaterials, characterization of cells and tissues, development and application of cultivation systems and automatisation are running.
