Beschreibung

Fifty-six cases of bloodstream infections caused by contaminated total parenteral nutrition were recorded between November 2013 and July 2014 in four Brazilian states resulting in 15 deaths. One of the bacteria involved, albeit repeatedly causing similar outbreaks, is habitually misidentified in clinical diagnostics and still poorly characterized. The aim of this project is to fill this significant knowledge gap and to design diagnostic tools for routine detection of this pathogen, raising at the same time the awareness of its potential hazards in the medical field.
