Stricter EU infant formula marketing rules came into effect

New EU food law designed to further restrict the advertising and marketing of infant formula are came into force on 22 February in a victory for campaigners critical of current guidelines.

The new legislation Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/127 and Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/128 looks to discontinue nutrition and health claims use on product labels, which the EU says will become cleaner with very few claims allowed.

Additionally, statements claiming benefits related to individual nutrients will be outlawed.
