FSA: Taste trials guidance
The Food Standards Agency has published guidance on conducting taste trials for novel foods and foods produced by novel processes.
The guidance is designed to help food businesses developing innovative novel foods – including cell cultivated products, low-calorie fat replacers, and certain functional foods – conduct safe and ethical taste trials as part of their research and development.
Companies planning taste trials should, as best practice, conduct thorough risk assessments, obtain independent ethics committee approval, maintain detailed records, and ensure full informed written consent from all participants.
