Semester registration confirmation and semester invoice

Starting in the spring semester 2020, students will receive their semester invoices electronically. This will allow them to submit their semester registration confirmation to official bodies or scholarship funds early.

Students will receive the notice to pay the semester fees by email. The semester invoice must be paid in order to remain matriculated. Payment can be made by credit card, PostFinance card or e-banking. The semester registration confirmation is available as soon as the semester fees have been paid.

Which payment methods are possible?

You can pay the semester fees by credit card, PostFinance card or Twint. Likewise, it is possible to pay the pdf invoice by e-banking.

I do not have a credit card or a PostFinance card. How can I pay my semester fees?

Pre-paid credit cards can be purchased at any kiosk. Some Swiss banks also offer special credit cards for students. Alternatively, it is possible to pay by Twint or to pay the pdf invoice by e-banking. Choose the corresponding option in the payment field.

My credit card is not accepted, and I do not have a PostFinance card. E-banking or Twint do not work either. What should I do?

Contact your academic office by email.

I paid the semester invoice but have now decided that I would like to take a leave of absence for one semester. What should I do?

Contact your academic office. If you have submitted the request for a leave of absence for one semester on time, the invoice will be adjusted and you will receive a refund for the difference.

I receive an error message when I try to make a payment.

If the error message occurs on the my.zhaw portal, contact your academic office. If your credit card company denies the payment, contact your credit card company.

Can the semester fees also be paid at a later date?

No. The same deadlines apply to all students.

Can I pay the semester fees in instalments?

No. Instalment payments are not possible under the Regulations on Fees and Contributions for Degree Programmes and Continuing Education (in German).

I am not sure if I want to continue my studies. Can I pay once I have decided to continue?

No. The same deadlines apply to all students.

I cannot register on the my.zhaw portal. What should I do?

Log in with your full students.zhaw.ch email address. If you are both a student and an employee, you must log in with your employee email address. Reset your password if you have forgotten it.

When do I receive the semester registration confirmation?

You receive your semester registration confirmation as soon as you have paid the invoice.

I paid the invoice, but I cannot download the invoice or the semester registration confirmation.

Check if a pop-up blocker is preventing the download or try using a different browser. If this still does not work, contact your academic office.

Where can I find the semester registration confirmation?

The semester registration confirmation is attached to the paid invoice. You can download your semester registration confirmation from the my.zhaw portal at any time. You will not find the semester confirmation for your first semester at the ZHAW in the my.zhaw portal, but in the online registration portal (login with SWITCH edu-ID) where you originally registered for your studies.

My semester registration confirmation is blank or contains the wrong information.

Contact your academic office.

I paid the invoice, but I now have to change the invoice address.

It is not possible to change the invoice address after the invoice has been paid. If you require a receipt for your tax return, the bank’s proof of payment will suffice.

The invoice address on the unpaid invoice is incorrect.

Contact your academic office by email so it can correct the invoice address.

The invoice amount is incorrect. May I ignore the invoice?

Contact your academic office immediately. Payment deadlines must always be adhered to.

I am not paying the invoice myself. How should I proceed?

If a company or third person is paying the invoice, you (i.e. the student) can download the invoice as a PDF file from the my.zhaw portal and forward it for the purposes of payment. The same deadlines apply. These can be found in the Regulations on Admission, Matriculation and Ex-matriculation (in German).

I do not check my ZHAW email account, which is why I did not notice that I had to pay my semester fees.

In accordance with the Regulations on Admission, Matriculation and Ex-matriculation (in German), you are obliged to check your ZHAW email account at least once per week.

I have missed the deadline and will now be ex-matriculated, but I want to continue studying at the ZHAW. What should I do?

You can re-enrol for your studies at the next possible date.
