Research funding by the European Union
The ZHAW is actively involved in European research programmes and works with an international network of partners from industry and other universities on cutting-edge projects.
The 8th generation of the EU framework programmes is called “Horizon 2020” and runs from 2014 to 2020. The focal points of Horizon 2020 are Excellent Science, Industrial Leadership and Societal Challenges. European research activity is to be structured according to these principles. Participation in these programmes is very prestigious and it makes for interesting international contacts with partners in industry and in other universities.
The ZHAW has been involved in EU projects since the 6th framework programme (FP6) and has worked with SMEs and partners from industry and other universities from over 20 European countries. The ZHAW has also participated in EU research projects with Swiss SMEs. These projects cover a wide spectrum of specialist fields, such as biotechnology, energy, transport, mobility, security, information and communication technology.
Euresearch provides information, on behalf of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI, on participation possibilities and procedures in European research. The Euresearch network has its own contact point at the ZHAW:
- Suzana Atanasoski is the main contact person at Euresearch Contact Point ZFH for all members of the Zürcher Fachhochschule (ZFH). She can provide information and advise on European research support.
- Florian Berner is the contact person at Euresearch Contact Point SME and is specifically concerned with questions and concerns regarding SMEs.
