Description
An advanced control and design incl. dimensioning system for
energy storage systems, in particular with batteries (specifically
Li-Ion). The results include:
(a) System design / dimensioning tools for sizing the relevant
components, in particular the energy storage (battery) in terms of
power and energy, but possibly also other components such as the
converters, containers, and other substation equipment.
(b) Advanced control algorithms that take into account the current
state of operation of the system and the relevant connected systems
(e.g. electrical grid, generation and load), forecasts of these
(e.g. load, generation or weather forecasts), the state of health
of the battery, a stress model of the battery which accurately
reflects the battery aging/degradation during the lifetime, the
relevant constraints on the operation (e.g. grid codes, market
rules, contract with the TSO). The design tools (a) are aware of
the advanced control algorithms, dimensioning / sizing takes into
account and simultaneously addresses the relevant controller
parameters (joint optimization of the system and the controller).
The system was designed for the following use cases: primary
frequency control
ramp rate limitation control, peak shaving (e.g. customer peak load
shaving).
