ZHAW Datalab is scientific partner of the Swiss Conference on Data Science

The Swiss Conference on Data Science (SDS) is the biggest and most important Swiss conference in the field of data science. This year it will take place for the eighth time, either online or on-site in Lucerne. The conference is organised by the data innovation alliance, a network of interdisciplinary experts, universities and companies.

International Symposium on the Science of Data Science

The ZHAW Datalab is the scientific partner of the SDS and is organising the International Symposium on the Science of Data Science. The aim of this satellite event, one day prior to the SDS conference, is to work together on the scientific core of data science.

What makes Data Science more than the sum of methods and tools from other disciplines? What new insights can be gained from working with data in general? The workshop is aimed at researchers and practitioners who would like to contribute in the form of hypotheses.

The symposium is planned as a two-stage process: the first symposium addresses preliminary thoughts and hypotheses. The second symposium (date is yet to be determined) aims to finalise these findings and publish them as conference proceedings after the symposium.

"The SDS was founded at the ZHAW in 2014 and later handed over to the data innovation alliance as organiser. We are very pleased to now support the SDS as a scientific partner and to organise the symposium. Data science is a focus topic at the ZHAW, and the ZHAW Datalab is a key player in enabling interdisciplinary innovation and technology transfer at the ZHAW and beyond," says Robert Vorburger, Head of the ZHAW Datalab.
