Bachelor's degree Systems Engineering: Specialisation

After the solid basic training in the first two years of your studies, you choose between the two specializations Robotics & Mechatronics and Medical Technology in the final year. In addition, you have the opportunity to acquire in-depth skills in the field of photonics.

Specialization in Robotics & Mechatronics

In the Robotics and Mechatronics specialization, you deepen your knowledge of controlled, complex mechatronic systems. You acquire competencies in industrial robotics, autonomous robots, mechatronic systems in automation, vehicle and aircraft engineering, as well as mechatronic product development.

The following topics are in focus:

 • Robotics (industrial robotics, autonomous robots, mobile robotics, intelligent robotics, physical AI)
 • Control engineering and automation
 • Power electronics and drive technology

In addition, a wide range of elective modules is available.

Specialization in Medical Technology

In the Medical Technology specialization, you acquire the skills needed to develop new diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in medicine. You deepen your knowledge in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, biosignal analysis, imaging methods, safety and regulations, as well as surgical robotics.

The following topics are in focus:

 • Diagnostics (medical imaging, biosignals, medical analytics and optics)
 • Therapeutic procedures (minimally invasive techniques, technical-physical methods in cancer therapy)
 • Biomedical systems (anatomy and physiology at the level of cells, organs and organ systems, application and distribution of drugs, medical data and model-based data analysis)

In addition, a wide range of elective modules is available.

Photonics

By taking elective modules in applied optics, optoelectronics, image processing and sensor technology, you can, in addition to one of the two specializations, acquire in-depth competencies in the field of photonics.
