Terahertz-Photonics Lab

The Terahertz Lab researches new methods of THz radiation generation and detection, with a particular focus on sensitive and broadband measurements.

In the ICP's Terahertz Lab, we operate and develop a compact, specially constructed THz spectroscopy system based entirely on organic electro-optical crystals. This system enables ultra-broadband generation and detection of terahertz radiation and, thanks to time-resolved measurement methodology (THz-TDS), offers temporal resolution in the femtosecond range with a spectral range of up to 20 THz.

The system is based on femtosecond lasers and is characterised by high frequency resolution (< 3 GHz), excellent accuracy and long-term stability. It is continuously being further developed to open up new applications – from fundamental physical investigations of THz-matter interaction to industrially relevant THz spectroscopy, non-destructive testing and imaging.

The laboratory combines expertise in nonlinear optical processes, materials research and instrument development and contributes to the further development of modern sensor systems.
