Thin-Film Processing Lab

The Thin Film Processing Lab is the heart of experimental materials development at the ICP. Here, novel thin functional layers and components are created for applications in optoelectronics, photonics and memristors.

The lab is designed for the production and structuring of thin layers under controlled environmental conditions. Two glovebox systems with integrated vacuum evaporation systems enable the complete production of sensitive organic and hybrid semiconductor components, including OLEDs, solar cells and memristors.

In addition to the thermal evaporation of various materials, layers are deposited from solution (e.g. spin coating or blade coating). Various devices are available for structural characterisation, including a profilometer and a 3D microscope, to precisely determine topography, layer thickness and surface homogeneity.

The laboratory offers the necessary infrastructure to go from material to functional device – and thus forms the basis for the ICP's experimental research in optoelectronics and functional thin-film technology.
