Specialisation in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Computer Science

In your third year, you can tailor your studies to your interests by choosing one of three specialisations – Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity or Software Engineering – or by creating an individual specialisation. You can choose from a range of up to 50 modules.

Artificial Intelligence

Building on the algorithmic foundations established in the first two years, you will receive a comprehensive introduction to the methods and applications of artificial intelligence, machine learning and, in particular, deep learning. You will then deepen your knowledge in areas such as computer vision (for example, medical image analysis), reinforcement learning (for example, controlling games or robots), or the latest approaches to developing and operating machine learning systems in practice (MLOps). You will learn to develop fair AI systems, build applications using large language models, analyse medical images and control robots. These skills prepare you for roles such as ML Engineer or AI Research Scientist, while also providing valuable expertise for future careers as a Software Engineer, Software Architect or IT Consultant.

Cybersecurity

During the foundation stage, you will acquire skills in cryptography, secure network communication and access control for systems and applications, together with the necessary fundamentals of computer systems. In the Cybersecurity specialisation, you will then learn to attack systems and applications as part of penetration testing and implement appropriate countermeasures. You will also learn how to address system security during software development through a secure-by-design approach. In addition, you will learn to monitor networks and systems in operation to detect attacks at an early stage.

Software Engineering

In the first semesters, you will acquire a solid foundation in programming, algorithms and data structures, databases, and information systems. Building on this, you will learn modern software development methods and paradigms. In the Software Engineering specialisation, you will deepen your knowledge of topics such as AI for software engineering, low-code/no-code development, requirements engineering, software architecture and testing. This prepares you to design and successfully implement innovative, robust software solutions. In selected areas, you will also have the opportunity to obtain internationally recognised certifications.

Individual specialisation

As an alternative to one of the three specialisations, you can develop your own areas of expertise, for example in:

  • Autonomous Systems and Physical AI
  • Cloud Computing
  • Embedded Computing
  • Human-Centred Computing
  • Intelligent Information Systems
  • Intelligent Network Communication
  • Internet of Things
  • Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps and Platform Engineering

Create your own individual specialisation from up to 50 modules.
