New publication in the field of additive manufacturing
The strategic collaboration between IMES and IMPE is bearing fruit. Our publication in Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A investigates the complex thermal expansion behavior of additively manufactured Ti-6Al-4V.
The build orientation in the LPBF process has a major effect on the thermal expansion in additively manufactured Ti-6Al-4V. The special microstructure together with complex, crystallographically based mechanical strains during the transformation process of Ti-6Al-4V lead to differently affected thermal strains. Depending on the build direction, either significantly higher or lower thermal strains occur. Details can be found in our publication in Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A
