Agri-PV in Switzerland: Advice for agricultural businesses
Agri-photovoltaics enables agricultural land to be used for both food production and electricity generation. In collaboration with the Canton of Zurich, the ZHAW is now launching a project that offers agricultural businesses individual feasibility studies at greatly reduced costs.

Dual use of land
Switzerland must accelerate the expansion of renewable energies. Roof-PV alone is not sufficient to achieve the expansion targets. Agri-photovoltaics (agri-PV) offers a solution: agricultural land can be used simultaneously for food production and electricity generation.
Consulting services for 10 businesses
To make it easier for agricultural businesses to get started, the Institute for Environment and Natural Resources is launching a project involving 10 individual feasibility studies. These will analyse areas, crops and types of plant, examine permits and grid connections, and produce initial profitability calculations.
Major advantages for businesses
Participating businesses receive:
- Clear decision-making criteria for their own farms
- Specific yield and profitability calculations
- Support with approvals and direct payments
- Comparison of system types and marketing models
