Research Group Renewable Energies
We develop and validate practical solutions for energy efficiency and renewable energy systems – from data analysis and simulation to implementation in the field. The Renewable Energies research group deals with topics in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energies, resource management, and circular economy. The focus is on ecologically and economically sensible, practical applications. Depending on the project, the research group collaborates with partners from industry and commerce, environmental organizations, government agencies, and other universities.
Focus areas
- Energy efficiency: networked energy systems, energy management, efficiency programs for SMEs
- Smart energy: integration of renewable energies into the distribution grid, grid compatibility, operating strategies
- Solar energy: PV, solar thermal, PVT – design, yield, integration (including alpine regions)
- Wind energy: resource analyses, environmental impacts, sustainability assessment
Competencies
- Development of energy and energy efficiency concepts considering ecology and economy
- Solar radiation measurements, simulation of photovoltaic and photovoltaic-thermal systems, development of planning and design tools
- Yield estimates and yield optimizations for solar systems in alpine regions, considering optimal integration into the surrounding environment
- Measurement and simulation of wind conditions, potential studies using geographic information systems, and investigation of the sustainability of wind turbines
- Simulation of energy systems using Matlab, Python, R, C, C++, Java, etc.
- Assessment and optimization of environmental impacts in the field of renewable energies
