Wind Energy
Electricity generation from wind energy is one of the most environmentally friendly forms of electricity generation and has a potential in Switzerland that is often underestimated. Challenges include topographical and meteorological conditions as well as land-use conflicts. The Renewable Energy Research Group at the Institute for Environment and Natural Resources conducts applied research and development related to the planning and evaluation of sustainable wind energy concepts.
Research Focus Areas
- Wind Energy Potential in Switzerland
- Wind Conditions in Complex Environments (Mountains, Cities)
- Environmental Impacts of Wind Turbines
- Regional Economic Impact and Energy Strategies
- Stakeholder Acceptance
Areas of Expertise
- Wind measurements and wind modeling
- Environmental impact assessments (noise and shadow analyses, impacts on flora and fauna)
- Land-use studies using geographic information systems (GIS)
- Feasibility and potential studies, including for municipalities and regions
