Long-term commitment to biodiversity pays off

Protecting biodiversity is a generational task – and a powerful example of how sustained commitment can deliver lasting impact. Adina Arth from the ZHAW Zurich Center for Sustainability Leadership is patron of the Wild Plant Protection Germany project and recently joined project partners on a visit to restoration sites along the River Havel. There she witnessed tangible results: newly created habitats, responsibly managed landscapes, and successfully reintroduced wild plant species.

On site in north-eastern Germany, one thing became clear to patron Adina Arth from the Zurich Centre for Sustainability Leadership: only through close cooperation between botanical gardens, research institutions, nature conservation organisations and landowners can tangible long-term results be achieved, as has been the case after twelve and a half years in the Wild Plant Protection Germany project. The dedication, expertise, and passion invested over more than a decade demonstrate what can be achieved when many stakeholders work together to protect biodiversity.

Another highlight of the week was the annual conference of the Association of Botanical Gardens, where experts shared concrete examples and lessons from gardens across Germany. Such platforms are crucial to pooling knowledge and advancing solutions to today’s pressing conservation challenges.
