Circular Economy Lab

"Leveraging interdisciplinary expertise in applied sciences and technology and collaborating with life science and engineering institutions, the CEL bridges research, industry, and policy to accelerate the shift from linear to circular systems according to the motto: Better for business. Better for the planet.”
Peter Qvist-Sorensen, Head of Circular Economy Lab
Competencies

The Circular Economy Lab (CEL) is committed to advancing circularity and sustainable innovation with a strategic focus on manufacturing, machinery, renewable energy, and industrial waste remediation.
We specialize in unlocking the implications and opportunities of circular economy using our unique triangular framework.
Our focus areas are:
- Legal and societal requirements, e.g., the EU Circular Economy Action Plan/EU Green Deal Industrial Plan, the Hydrogen Action Plan, etc.
- Emerging technologies, e.g., machine learning and AI, digital twins, additive manufacturing, biotechnologies, carbon capture and storage, etc.
- Business needs, including financial, environmental, market, and feasibility validation.
We use this framework to drive new revenue-generating business models through new solutions and servitization, as well as lowering costs by looking at material flows and reducing resource use/impact.
Based on years of experience, we work with companies in applied national and international research projects and stakeholder training to:
- Develop innovative business models ranging from products-as-a-service and pay-per-use to life-cycle extensions and value-added services.
- Turn materiality challenges into value retention and creation.
- Manage certified life cycle assessments and the scope III journey in a business setting.
- Guide the transformation from supply chain to value ecosystems.
- Conduct cleantech know-how transfer.
Continuing Education

The CEL expertise directly flows into the CAS Managing Circular Economy: Participants learn how to strengthen the resilience and efficiency of their supply chain, drive their innovation agenda forward, and become more competitive by implementing circular economy principles.

“The program helped me to understand better the main circular strategies and how they can be combined. I now feel well-equipped to tackle the forthcoming challenges in my job from a range of perspectives.”
