The Global Pulse: Dominik Meier on Lifelong Learning and the Courage to Start Over

Dominik Meier completed his Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology, his MBA, and additional continuing education programs at ZHAW – today, he works as a Senior CIO Advisor and teaches as a lecturer at ZHAW School of Management and Law. In this interview, he reflects on his unconventional educational journey, the connection between IT and business, formative MBA experiences, and why resilience and authenticity are essential in professional life.

How do you transition from a technical specialist to a leadership role at the intersection of business and technology? In his conversation with “The Global Pulse”, Dominik Meier shares his journey from System Engineer to Senior CIO Advisor at isolutions AG – and explains why continuing education has always meant more to him than just career advancement.

After completing a technical apprenticeship and gaining several years of professional experience, Meier consciously chose to pursue a part-time degree in Business Information Technology at ZHAW. What fascinated him most was the opportunity to combine technical expertise with business thinking. Today, he advises companies strategically on digital transformation while leading teams in the dynamic space between technology and leadership.

Meier also speaks openly about setbacks and difficult moments in his career. In many ways, he says, failure shaped him and strengthened his resilience. These experiences are something he now shares with students himself: alongside his role as CIO Advisor, he currently teaches at ZHAW. For him, the transition from student to lecturer marked a special milestone and reflects his strong connection to the institution.

Another focus of the interview is Meier’s MBA at ZHAW School of Management and Law. He highlights the combination of business fundamentals, executive leadership modules, and the exchange with experienced professionals from a wide range of industries as particularly impactful. Experiences such as crisis simulations and offsite seminars were especially formative and broadened his perspective significantly.

Beyond career and education, Dominik Meier also discusses his passion for long-distance running, the importance of professional networks, and his advice for current and future students. His message is clear: don’t wait for the perfect moment, accept setbacks as part of the process, and never underestimate the value of human relationships.
