Paper Development Workshop in Winterthur Supports Emerging Scholars in Organization and Management Studies

Fo three days in October, the ZHAW School of Management and Law in Winterthur hosted the Paper Development Workshop in Organization and Management Studies. The event brought together more than 40 advanced PhD students, early-career researchers, and junior faculty members from across Europe to refine their research ideas and strengthen their publication skills.

The workshop was co-sponsored by the academic journals Organization Studies (OS) and Organization Theory (OT), the ZHAW School of Management and Law, and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Local organization was led by Prof. Marco Clemente and Dr. Gastone Gualtieri from the ZHAW Zurich Center for Sustainability Leadership (ZCSL), together with Prof. Christopher Hartwell and Prof. Thierry Volery.

Learning from Leading Scholars

Through intensive roundtable sessions, participants received detailed feedback on their paper drafts from distinguished scholars around the world, including Prof. John Amis (University of Edinburgh Business School), Prof. Sigrid Quack (University of Duisburg-Essen), and Prof. Tammar B. Zilber (Hebrew University of Jerusalem) — Editors-in-Chief of Organization Studies and Organization Theory and hosts of the workshop.

Additional mentoring was provided by Prof. Alex Bitektine (Concordia University), Prof. Laura Illia (University of Fribourg), Prof. Fredrik Hacklin (ZHAW School of Management and Law), Prof. Violetta Splitter (University of Oxford), Prof. Christian Voegtlin (ZHAW School of Management and Law, Co-Head Zurich Center for Sustainability Leadership), and Prof. Maxim Voronov (York University).

Advancing Research on Sustainable Leadership

Discussions focused on theorizing, methodological fit, and making a meaningful contribution to management research.
According to ZCSL Co-Head Prof. Marco Clemente,

“The goal of the workshop was to help early-career researchers sharpen the craft of academic writing — and, in doing so, to strengthen the quality and impact of research in organization and leadership studies.”

Networking and Exchange in an Inspiring Atmosphere

Beyond the academic sessions, the workshop also offered valuable opportunities for networking and exchange — including a welcome reception at Plan B Lounge Bar and a networking dinner at Nooba Kesselhaus in Winterthur.

By co-organizing this international event, the ZHAW Zurich Center for Sustainability Leadership proudly contributes to fostering responsible, high-quality research in the field of sustainability and leadership.
