F1D is the official FAI class for rubber-tyred free-flight indoor models. The minimum weight of the airframe is 1.4 grams, while the weight of the rubber must be less than 0.4 grams. These models have a wing span of max. 55 cm and a chord of max. 20 cm and fly with variable pitch propeller hubs reaching speeds of less than 1 m/s.
F1D are made from the lightest balsa wood available, PET film (0.5 microns) and some high-tech materials such as boron fiber reinforcements and carbon propeller outlines.
