New, Interdisciplinary MAS in Geopolitics, Strategy, and Security

Geopolitical thinking and action have become indispensable for businesses and government actors. This MAS covers the topics necessary for a well-founded response to security policy and geoeconomic challenges. Scenario-based exercises, negotiation training, and various field trips make this program unique.

For over 10 years, ZHAW has successfully offered a CAS in Foreign Affairs and Applied Diplomacy; the ninth cohort begins in March 2027. A few years ago, this program was first expanded to include a DAS in Applied Diplomacy and later a CAS in Geopolitics and Business Strategy.

Together with the CAS in Diplomacy, Technology, and Security, a package has been put together that combines the three already established CAS programs offered by the Center for Geopolitics and Competitiveness (CGC), while also allowing for combinations with CAS programs in related fields. This enables students in the new Master’s in Continuing Education (MAS) program to pursue individualized specializations in areas such as internal security, cybersecurity, or supply chain management. Courses on related topics from other universities may also be credited upon request.

The three CAS programs offered by the CGC are unique because they all include two or even three field trips: study trips to Brussels, Bern, Geneva, and Tirana are a fixed part of the program.

The program comprises 60 ECTS credits, including the master’s thesis, and can be completed in 1.5 to a maximum of 5 years, depending on the chosen study program. The order in which the CAS programs are taken is flexible, allowing students to tailor their studies to their individual professional circumstances.

Great minds think geopolitically.
