Meeting of representatives from ten European universities at the ZHAW

In January, the ZHAW became the first Swiss university to join the EELISA alliance. This offers the opportunity to work with high-ranking universities from the EU region and strengthen partnerships within Europe. The alliance's Executive Board Meeting was held for the first time at the ZHAW.

Government Councillor Silvia Steiner, ZHAW President Jean-Marc Piveteau and EELISA coordinator Alberto Garrido from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid welcomed around 55 representatives from ten universities from eight different European countries. The discussions focused on current topics such as a joint education offer, innovative teaching concepts and the development of a European entrepreneurship ecosystem. There was also the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the city of Winterthur and the laboratories of the ZHAW School of Engineering. In the late afternoon, a tour of the ZHAW campus in Wädenswil was on the agenda, followed by a boat trip on Lake Zurich.

EELISA aims to transform higher education in Europe while strengthening the links between engineering disciplines and society. Following its foundation in 2019, many of the alliance's cornerstones were laid in the initial phase. Once the second phase has been approved by the EU in November 2023, the ZHAW will begin leading work on specific areas of focus.

The following European universities belong to the EELISA alliance:

  • Budapesti Műszaki és Gazdaságtudományi Egyetem (Hungary)
  • École des Ponts ParisTech (France)
  • Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg Germany)
