Infrastructure and canteen

The ZHAW School of Engineering offers students state-of-the-art infrastructure and a learning environment with computer work stations and well-equipped laboratories. The Winterthur campus also has a canteen offering reasonably priced meals which change on a daily basis. All students are issued with a Campus Card the size of a credit card. This serves as identification for cash-free payment in the canteen and copy centre as well as providing access to the buildings.

Each student also receives:

  • a personal email account
  • a personal web folder
  • access to the ZHAW network via individual network connections in all teaching and work rooms
  • access to Intranet and Internet
  • discounts when purchasing notebooks, pocket calculators and accessories in the Techshop

University library

The ZHAW university library is also located close to Winterthur Main Railway Station. Students have access to reference works, specialist books and journals as well as electronic media. The modern media, information and learning centre also offers numerous workstations and group rooms over an area of around 6,000 m2.

Leisure activities and sports

The city of Winterthur offers an extensive range of leisure activities – including a music club, theatre, sports club and museum. Upon payment of the semester fees, all students automatically become members of VSZHAW, the ZHAW students' union. It represents the interests of students in relation to the university and the outside world, as well as organising parties, functions and sports events for students.

The Academic Sports Association of Zurich (ASVZ) supports the ZHAW sports programme. Students can take advantage of a varied range of team and individual sports in Winterthur and Zurich.
