Kompetenzen der Schwerpunktgruppe Light Weight Design

Die Schwerpunktgruppe Light Weight Design entwickelt und erforscht gewichtsoptimierte und in der Regel sehr hochbeanspruchte, teilweise sicherheitskritische Strukturen. Die Kompetenzen erstrecken sich dabei von der Konzeption über die Konstruktion, Simulation, Dimensionierung, Mechatronik und Messtechnik bis hin zum Prototypenbau. Die Anwendungen finden sich in Spezial- und Schienenfahrzeugen, in Luftfahrzeugen und Drohnen sowie immer mehr in hochdynamisch belasteten Mechanismen und Systemen. Die Simulation extrem kurzzeitiger Vorgänge im Millisekundenbereich auf dem institutseigenen Rechencluster mit über 400 CPUs mittels expliziter Hydrocodes ist daher zusammen mit Fluid-Struktur-Interaktionsanalysen (FSI) ein weiterer Schwerpunkt der Gruppe, ebenso wie die multidisziplinäre Optimierung der Strukturen. Dabei werden u.a. neue algorithmische Verfahren wie z.B. machine learning erforscht, um hochkomplexe physikalische Phänomene der unterschiedlichsten Art effizienter und genauer zu modellieren, wobei die grossen Datenmengen mit Hilfe von Reduced Order Models (MOR) verkleinert werden. Schliesslich ist die Gruppe noch im Bereich der Aeroelastizität tätig, d.h. der Wechselwirkung zwischen aerodynamischer Anregung und strukturellen Schwingungen wie sie z.B. bei Rotorblättern von Windenergieanlagen auftreten. Die Erstellung von Gutachten und Schadensanalysen zur Festigkeit auch geschweisster Strukturen runden zusammen mit dezidierten Normenkenntnissen in den Anwendungsbereichen das Kompetenzspektrum ab.
