“The ZHAW conducts applied research, putting the foundations in place for new developments in the economy and improvements in our society. Should you have any questions regarding our research activities or if you are interested in working with us, please don’t hesitate to contact me.”

Innovative and practice-oriented research profile

The ZHAW is one of the leading universities of applied sciences in Switzerland. The university focuses its research and development activities on key economic and social challenges. ZHAW researchers across more than 60 institutes, centres and specialist units develop innovative solutions that can be successfully implemented in practice. Working together with companies and the public sector, Innosuisse, the Swiss National Science Foundation and other foundations and as part of other European and global partnerships, for example within the framework of Horizon Europe, they conduct a large number of projects across a wide range of subjects each year.

Its close proximity to current issues and tasks from the world of practice as well as the university’s innovative environment also allow the ZHAW to offer application-oriented training and continuing education programmes: students and continuing education participants participate actively in research projects, providing them with a springboard to become the specialists of tomorrow.

The modern research infrastructure and existing partnerships with other universities in the canton of Zurich and around the world round off the ZHAW’s attractive research profile.

Commitment to open science and ethical responsibility in the area of research

Open science represents a profound change towards greater openness in the realms of research, teaching, innovation and scientific infrastructure as well as in the interaction between science and society. The ZHAW is clearly committed to open science. You can read more about our commitment in this area.

The ZHAW is also aware of its responsibility in the fields of teaching, research, continuing education and business services. We work transparently and openly and are guided by international, national and cantonal guidelines and principles. Read more about ethics, values and data protection.

You too can research with the ZHAW

There are many ways in which you can collaborate with the ZHAW: companies and other organisations can work together with the ZHAW on solutions to the challenges of today and tomorrow as part of a research collaboration. They also have the option to commission the ZHAW to carry out certain research or development tasks and business services for them.

Furthermore, researchers from other institutions can work together with the ZHAW in research consortia, funded by Swiss or European third-party funding organisations. Find out more about working with us.
