Canton-supported language support for foreign residents in the Canton of Basel-Landschaft

On behalf of the "Sicherheitsdirektion des Kantons Basel-Landschaft, Fachbereich Integration" and the "Bildungs-, Kultur- und Sportdirektion, Berufsbildung, Mittelschulen und Hochschulen", the present follow-up project evaluates the quality and impact of the German courses for self-paying participants funded through the Cantonal Integration Programme and financed by the "integration support credit". Building on the findings of the preliminary study conducted by ZHAW, the present main study focuses on the following aspects:

• reach and accessibility of the target group
• effectiveness of the subsidy model for self-paying participants
• transparency and navigability of the course landscape for the target group

To this end, a quantitative survey and interviews with (former) participants of subsidised German courses will be carried out. In addition, focus group discussions will be held with stakeholders in the field of integration, and existing documents, communication measures and channels, as well as language course provision outside the subsidy system, will be analysed.

Based on this dataset, recommendations will be provided to the Canton of Basel-Landschaft for the future planning, steering and implementation of German language support for adult migrants, for communication with stakeholders, and for future studies.
