New approaches to shaping the future of 5-minute neighbourhoods (Co-IMAGINE_5'D)
The Co-IMAGINE 5'D (joint enrichment of the city of short distances) project idea aims to develop innovative methods for redesigning public spaces based on the concept of 5-minute neighbourhoods in order to reduce motorised traffic and CO₂ emissions.
Result
By the end of the booster, the social innovation process would have been tested in prototyping up to implementation, and a local real-world laboratory structure would have been established, which would create long-term local capacities for co-creation and participation. The experiences would be evaluated to optimise the social innovation process in order to ensure its relevance and applicability before CO-IMAGINE 5'D is scaled to other cities and municipalities.
Description
CO-IMAGINE 5'D addresses the fundamental problem that the city of short distances is made impossible by a lack of desirable offerings. In Winterthur Grüze, development planning is to be used to test new approaches to shaping the future of 5-minute neighbourhoods (5'D), including at the Grüze Innovation Lab. During the Future Urban Society Innovation Booster, the social innovation process is to be developed and implemented within the framework of a real-world laboratory. The focus here is on involving the local population and other important stakeholders, as well as rapid testing in realistic conditions. A digital platform will be used to propose various missing urban functions and uses – such as street furniture, leisure facilities and vegetation – in Winterthur Grüze.
