Scalable macroAlgae cuLtivation systems for INnovative Applications in the food, cosmetic and construction sectors (SALINA)
Description
This EU Horizon project focuses on developing scalable cultivation systems for macroalgae (seaweed) to create regenerative, bio-based value chains. The envisioned end products include food, cosmetics, and insulation building materials.
A life cycle sustainability assessment (LCSA) as well as a circularity assessment will be conducted in an iterative approach to optimize cultivation, processing, and product pathways. The project also involves early stakeholder engagement to improve social acceptance and on-site monitoring to minimize environmental risks.
Combining environmental, social, and economic indicators, the project will benchmark SALINA product solutions against conventional reference products.
