Policy Brief on Poppers (Alkyl Nitrites): Regulation, Risks, and Recommendations for Switzerland (AHS-Poppers)
This project develops an evidence-based policy brief on the use of poppers (alkyl nitrites) in Switzerland in an international context. It analyses regulation, health risks, and provides recommendations for harm reduction and public health strategies.
Description

Poppers are mainly used by men who have sex with men (MSM). In Switzerland, Poppers are regulated under the Chemicals Act. A systematic public health perspective is still missing. The Swiss Aids Federation has requested a scientific review.
Aims
- Summarise legal frameworks in Switzerland and selected countries
- Assess health risks and usage patterns
- Develop recommendations for prevention, harm reduction and regulation in Switzerland.
Method
Desk research on literature and legal frameworks, analysis of use patterns, risks and regulation. Identification of policy options and formulation of practical recommendations in a concise policy brief.
(Expected) Results
Policy brief (3-8 pages) accessible to AHS, policymakers, and public health stakeholders.
