Professional and scientific expertise for the UZH in the area of the Detector for CERN’s CSM Collider
The UZH operates in the areas of establishing the next generation of the particle detector for the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The ZHAW performs work (professional and scientific expertise regarding development, manufacturing, assembling, and production) within a framework agreement.

Description
The aim is that the ZHAW supports the establishment of the collectors accordingly in the following respects:
- Industrialisation of the detector’s design while the University of Zurich (UZH) remains in the lead and accountability of it.
- The ZHAW follows the development, documents it, and supports the design process with its experience and knowledge enabling the proper production.
- Creating a proper digital representation ("as designed") of the collector by applying Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
- Enabling the traceability (keyword Digital Thread and Digital Twin) of the manufactured detector elements ("as design") throughout the whole lifecycle ("as maintained").
- Design of mechanical parts according to the specification of the UZH as far as required.
- Developing punctual production means ensuring the consistent quality of the units in combination with assembly process Developments/instructions and documentation (quality management).
- Manufacturing and production of the units in cooperation with the UZH Physik workshop and the project-related suppliers.
- Answering specific questions e.g. through student projects and potentially in cooperation with other ZHAW institutes.
The produced detector modules come into operation in 2029.
