Needs-based social assistance robots for people with dementia
Description
Background
Social assistance robots (SAR) are increasingly being used in care homes, but the specific needs/requirements for their use in dementia care are unclear. A literature review, focus group interviews and a future workshop are used to gain insights for further development.
Aims / Questions
The main aim is to improve the care of people with dementia by adapting the use of SAR to their needs and requirements. This is in line with the fundamental purpose of digital transformation in healthcare.
Methods
- Work package 1 (WP1): Create an overview of the current state of research based on a literature review.
- WP2: Identify needs through guided focus group interviews with different user groups (care, daily living and service staff).
- WP3: Carry out a gap analysis.
- WP4: Outline innovative SAR solution scenarios in a future workshop with representatives from practice, research and robotics.
Benefits / Results
New findings on the use of SAR in dementia care in relation to:
- Needs and particular challenges from the users' perspective
- Development needs with regard to technical functions, equipment and appearance
- Needs-based use and corresponding requirements.
