Small states success: Singapore and Switzerland navigating through turbulent times

The event is jointly organised by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore and the ZHAW School of Management and Law.

Both Singapore and Switzerland are widely regarded as highly successful small, open economies, that have achieved global relevance through strong institutions, innovation, and strategic international engagement.

The theme reflects a shared interest of Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and the ZHAW School of Management and Law in helping organizations navigate a changing and challenging global environment, shaped by geopolitical tensions, technological disruption, and economic fragmentation – where the sustainability of the “small state success model” is increasingly being tested.

The event is organised jointly with SwissCham Singapore.

Southeast Asia is one of the most dynamic economic regions in the world. At the same time, geopolitical shifts, technological developments and evolving global frameworks are increasingly shaping the business environment in which companies operate.

The event brings together representatives from business, government and academia to discuss opportunities, challenges and future prospects for Swiss companies in Singapore and across Southeast Asia.

Deep-tech innovation management: AI, data science and quantum computing

The event is organised jointly with the National University of Singapore (NUS). 

Innovation does not happen linearly. To sustain industrial value creation, the next wave of technology must already be gaining momentum before the current one reaches maturity. This creates a fundamental challenge: investments in emerging technologies are needed long before their value and success are fully proven.

In deep-tech innovation management, universities and governments play a key role in shaping this transition by creating the conditions for new technologies to emerge and scale.

The event explores Data Science, AI and Quantum Computing, technologies with different levels of maturity and disruptive potential for global industries and societies. By comparing the deep-tech ecosystems of Singapore and Switzerland, participants from academia, industry and politics will discuss what can be learnt from different approaches to fostering innovation.
