The ZHAW joins the Center for Space and Aviation

The ZHAW is joining the Center for Space and Aviation. With its expertise in aviation, engineering and sustainable aviation, the ZHAW contributes new ideas to the New Space Economy.

The new Center for Space and Aviation Switzerland and Liechtenstein (CSA) brings together technical knowledge of space and aviation from multiple universities and other institutions with the goal of advancing the New Space Economy. The ZHAW has now joined this network. The Centre for Aviation (ZAV) in particular, with its experience in engineering, creates new opportunities for research and development in sustainable aviation at the Dübendorf site. In addition, the ZHAW School of Management and Law will also contribute its expertise in entrepreneurship and innovation to support the development of the space sector.

“The ZHAW is adding its interdisciplinary expertise in space and aviation to strengthen the CSA and raise its international profile,” says Michel Guillaume, who heads the ZAV. Additionally, this partnership creates new research opportunities, particularly in the fields of sustainable aviation, autonomous systems and new space innovations, he adds.

Strengthening collaborations and international projects

The ZAV is renowned for its work in drone operations, risk analysis, modern flight simulation, human factors performance and aviation language. By joining the CSA, existing collaborations will be strengthened, for example in the measurement of engine emissions. The ZAV is also involved in international projects, including the spin-off SkAI, which analyses interference signals, specifically spoofing and jamming threats for GPS signals, and thus makes an important contribution to air traffic safety.
