Winner of to the SAMG Best Student Thesis Award 2025
"Congratulations to the SAMG Best Student Thesis Award 2025! The ZHAW Mechanical Engineering student Gianluca Schmid received the 3rd price at the SAMG Best Student Thesis Award 2025 of the Swissmem Additive Manufacturing Group for his Bachelor Thesis "Thermo-Mechanical Process Simulation based Parameter Study on PBF-LB/M Scan Patterns".
Gianluca's thesis was supervised by Michael Hofmann and Prof. Dr. Thomas Mayer of the Institute of Mechanical Systems. The prize was handed over by Prof. Dr. Matthias Hoebel, Dr. Adriaan Spierings, and Ralf Schindel. In his thesis, Gianluca Schmid, implemented a thermo-mechanical process simulation model to investigate the development of residual stress in the near-field of single and multiple laser tracks during the PBF-LB/M process. The IMES team congratulates Gianluca for this well-deserved award and outstanding achievement!
