Description
When companies store their data in the cloud or share data with
other organizations via the cloud, information security and data
protection are based on trust, legal agreements and technical and
organizational measures. "Confidential Computing" technology can
ensure the confidentiality and protection of data in the cloud at
hardware level. This reduces the potential for abuse, e.g. by the
cloud provider itself or third parties.
In this preliminary study, the potential applications of
"Confidential Computing" based on Intel's Software Guard Extensions
(SGX) are to be investigated together with the Zurich-based company
decentriq. Decentriq develops software e.g. for machine learning or
data exchange between companies on the basis of SGX and is a
founding member of the "Confidential Computing Consortium" with
members such as Google Cloud, Intel, Microsoft and Swisscom.
