Innovative Simulation-Enhanced High-Performance Materials for Next-Generation OLED applications and beyond (INSIGHT)

Developing next-generation lithium-free electron injection materials for longer-lasting, more sustainable OLEDs, supported by predictive modelling, device validation, and advanced simulation tools.

Description

The Eurostars project aims to develop a new generation of lithium-free electron injection materials for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). These materials are intended to improve device lifetime and stability while reducing dependence on lithium-containing materials.

The project combines materials development by Noctiluca with modelling and device characterization by Fluxim and ZHAW. Modelling will support the design and evaluation of new materials, while experimental testing will assess their performance in relevant device structures. The results will be used iteratively to guide further material development and optimization.

In addition to new electron injection materials, the project will extend Fluxim’s OLED simulation environment with a structured materials database and new user-support functionality. These developments are intended to make simulation workflows more accessible and to improve the use of validated material data in OLED research and development.

The project addresses an established and growing market for OLED materials and simulation tools. Its results are expected to contribute to longer-lasting and more sustainable OLED devices, while strengthening European capabilities in advanced materials, device modelling and optoelectronic technologies.
