Quality Alternatives for RNP With Terrestrial Radionavigation (QUARTR)
QUARTR will propose performance models for DME navigation to support RNP. This will enable the operation of RNP procedures during major interference events against GNSS.
Description
To combat the impact of GNSS jamming and spoofing on the efficiency of future airspace concepts, project QUARTR aims to enable RNP services based on DME. This will leave airspace operators with the ability to complement RNP operations with terrestrial navigation. With the continuing trend of growing demand for air travel, maintaining airspace efficiency is a key objective for EUROCONTROL, who sponsors the project.
The outcomes of the project will likely inform ongoing standardization efforts with well-known standards bodies like EUROCAE and the RTCA. Changes to the standards will eventually lead to changes in the regulations, thereby enabling said complementary implementations of RNP.
