A Tool for Prototyping Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAO_Pro_Tool)

This project develops a DAO Prototyping Tool (DAO ProTool) using agent-based modelling to enable DAO designers to simulate different organizational designs.

Result

The results were presented at several academic and practitioner-oriented conferences in Europe and the US, contributing to the visibility of Swiss DAO research and fostering exchange with the broader European DAO community. The project contributed to the development of an international DAO conference and supported the kickstart of a European DAO research community to promote the successful adoption and long-term prosperity of DAOs in practice.

Description

This project develops a DAO Prototyping Tool (DAO ProTool) that uses agent-based modelling to support DAO designers in exploring, testing, and comparing different organizational designs before implementing them in practice. The tool enables the simulation of governance structures, decision-making processes, participation dynamics, incentive mechanisms, and coordination challenges within decentralized autonomous organizations.

As part of the project, I studied the Swiss DAO landscape to identify existing organizational patterns, regulatory and practical challenges, and emerging design needs among DAO practitioners. Building on these insights, I developed a generative agent-based model that represents key actors, governance rules, and interaction dynamics within DAOs.
