Wire saw for cutting metal additive manufacturing components from the build plate (AM-Drahtsäge)
In additive manufacturing, metal components are firmly bonded to the build plate. With large-scale 3D printing systems, conventional separation techniques reach their limits. The IPP wire saw solves this problem.
Description
In additive manufacturing, metal components are firmly bonded to the build plate. With large-scale 3D printing systems, conventional separation techniques reach their limits. Band saws are an option, though they require significantly larger support structures and can potentially damage the separated components. Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is also an option, although this process contaminates the component with dielectric fluid and can pose challenges in process control when working with large build plates.
The IPP has developed a cutting system that solves the problem using a cutting wire.
