ChirpScan: Monitoring grasshopper biodiversity with an AI-driven mobile app
Description
The goal of this project is to develop ChirpScan, an intuitive mobile app that uses artificial intelligence to automatically identify grasshopper species. By analyzing their unique songs, the app facilitates efficient, non-invasive, and widespread monitoring of grasshopper diversity, which is a vital indicator of ecosystem health.
ChirpScan is designed for experts, citizen scientists, and nature enthusiasts alike. It streamlines species identification, saves valuable time for professionals, and opens the door to biodiversity research for entirely new user groups.
Beyond its benefits for research and conservation, ChirpScan acts as an educational tool. By teaching users about species, habitats, and ecological connections, the app fosters a deeper appreciation for biodiversity and the importance of protecting it.
