Sustainability management in Swiss municipalities and cities

Description

Swiss municipalities and cities play a key role in the implementation of sustainable development. This responsibility is anchored both in international law (Rio Documents 1992) and in constitutional law (Art. 2 of the Swiss Federal Constitution).

In practice, however, there is often a lack of clear prioritisation, coordination and sufficient resources. The multitude of strategies, standards and responsibilities frequently results in a fragmented approach. Smaller municipalities in particular lack the human and technical capacities needed to strategically embed sustainability goals and implement them effectively.

In collaboration with conseil3, this project develops a holistic, practical and scientifically grounded approach to sustainability management for Swiss municipalities and cities.
