Supramolecular Luminescent Chemosensorsfor PFAS detection
Detection of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), called “forever chemicals” with optical spectroscopy techniques.
Description
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), often called “forever chemicals”, are a large group of synthetic compounds used in everyday products like waterproof clothing, non-stick cookware, and firefighting foams. Their persistence in nature and potential to harm living organisms make them a growing global concern. Detecting PFAS in the environment is difficult because they occur at very low concentrations.
The project will create innovative molecular structures and incorporate them into stable polymer materials, making the sensors durable and suitable for real-world use. Advanced optical analysis and machine learning techniques will help interpret their light signals.
This project is directly linked to the COST CA22131 Action on Supramolecular Luminescent Chemosensors for Environmental Security (LUCES).
