Pilot project for flat glass recycling in Winterthur

Description

The pilot project aims to test the recycling process for flat glass using a specific demolition project in Winterthur as an example. The project will examine at which points in the process chain – from dismantling and separation to recycling – additional effort and costs arise. In addition, a detailed life cycle assessment will be carried out to clarify the environmental impact and CO₂ savings potential of the selected process.
Currently, there is no optimised recycling process in Switzerland that enables a functioning circular economy for flat glass. The small amount of flat glass that is currently recycled is often downcycled into hollow glass – a clear loss of material value and CO₂ savings potential.
