First-generation students at Universities of Applied Sciences
First-generation students at Universities of Applied Sciences - implementation and evaluation of a catalogue of measures to promote academic success and entry into the labour market
Description
First-generation students are strongly represented at Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences, making up 64% of students, compared to only 44% at universities. Nevertheless, first-generation students have lower grades, drop out more often and have greater difficulty entering the labour market. These differences are a burden not only for the students concerned, but also for universities, the economy and society. There is therefore a need for action to provide targeted support for first-generation students.
Under the leadership of the HSLU and in collaboration with the BFH, the ZHAW aims to use this pilot project, based on a systematic needs analysis and a structured exchange between the three UASs, to determine what needs exist on the part of first-generation students and what possibilities exist on the part of the university to take appropriate measures
