Long-term conservation of Arctic char (Salvelinus umbla) in Lake Zurich
Description
In order to ensure a stable population of Arctic char in Lake Zurich in the long term, existing measures (fish stocking and artificial spawning grounds) are being evaluated and optimised. The aim is to make recommendations for terminating useless measures, optimising moderate ones and expanding effective ones.
The Arctic char is a native fish species in Switzerland with an endangered status. Lake Zurich is home to a small population whose survival is uncertain due to a lack of spawning grounds. The project aims to secure the ecologically valuable population in the long term by utilising resources efficiently.
