New perspectives for education, research and collaboration

The project IMMERSE is driving the digital transformation of education and knowledge transfer. The initiative harnesses the potential of extended reality and artificial intelligence, develops innovative applications, and creates unique spaces for collaborative learning, research, and experiences.

The project Immersive Education and Science Exploration (IMMERSE) is committed to the digital transformation of education and training through immersive teaching and learning technologies. IMMERSE aims to unlock the potential of Extended Reality (XR) and artificial intelligence (AI) for education, research, and knowledge transfer, and to develop and test innovative applications together with partners from academia and practice. IMMERSE supports universities, companies, and organizations in transforming innovative ideas into tangible, experiential applications. The project is a joint flagship initiative of the University of Zurich, the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW School of Engineering), and the Zurich University of Teacher Education (PHZH), funded by the Digitalization Initiative of the Zurich Higher Education Institutions (DIZH).

Collaborative Immersive Learning

A milestone was the opening of the IMMERSE Theatre – the “Deep Space Zurich” this spring, realized in cooperation with Ars Electronica. This space enables immersive visualizations and interactive experiences in a large-scale XR environment. Researchers, students, and external partners can experience, analyze, and discuss complex content together. The IMMERSE Theatre serves as an experimental and collaborative space for new forms of learning, research, and knowledge exchange and is a one-of-a-kind installation in the Swiss higher education landscape. IMMERSE also includes a Prototyping Lab, a 3D Lecture Hall in cooperation with Careum, and OR-X, an open-access center for local and international surgical research and training.

New Project Website as a Central Platform

With the launch of the new website, IMMERSE has a central platform for all activities, projects, and partners of the initiative for the first time. The website offers insights into ongoing research and education projects, provides information on events, and shows how immersive technologies are shaping the future of education, research, and collaboration. It also provides an overview of IMMERSE’s partner organizations, projects, and infrastructure, as well as opportunities for participation and collaboration.
