Hong Kong Delegation Visits ZHAW

On Friday, 22 May 2026, the ZHAW School of Management and Law (SML) and the School of Engineering (SoE) welcomed a high-ranking delegation from the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to Winterthur.

The delegation of 27 was led by Dr. Christine Choi, Secretary for Education of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Among them were representatives of the Planning and Construction of the University Town working group and the Alliance of Universities of Applied Sciences Hong Kong. The purpose of the visit was to exchange ideas on practice-oriented higher education, the application of research, and cooperation between universities and the business sector.

The program also included a visit to the university campus in Winterthur. At ZHAW, the focus was particularly on the structures and success factors of Swiss higher education. ZHAW President Prof. Regula Jöhl welcomed the delegation and introduced the University’s strategic orientation and profile. Prof. Reto Steiner, Dean of the SML, and Prof. Silvio Lorenzetti, Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics, Physics, Systems and Operations at the SoE, presented case studies from their respective schools showing how universities can play a leading role in the education sector. Dr. Christine Choi was impressed by ZHAW’s educational model and recognized the potential for closer cooperation between education and practice in Hong Kong.

This visit by the Hong Kong delegation underscores the importance of international partnerships for ZHAW. In particular, it strengthens international networking and exchange with universities and institutions worldwide. International collaborations such as these create new perspectives for research, teaching, and social impact.
