Arbeits- und Forschungsschwerpunkte, Spezialkenntnisse

Summary – activities at the ZHAW School of Life Sciences and Facility Management in Wädenswil (ZH, Switzerland), Zurich University of Applied Sciences

On going projects at the ZHAW:

- Energy-efficient production in the cosmetics industry, a contribution to
sustainable processes (co-project with HSLU, Lucerne University of Applied
Sciences and Art, HSLU, main funding partner Swiss Federal Office for Energy)

- Biometric testing concepts for the detection of emotional effects in cosmetics
(funded project with FFA, Forschungsfond Aargau)

- implementation of a objective sensorial panel for cosmetic products
- sensory assessments by trained panelist to understand formulations tactile
sensorial properties e.g. in relation to compliance and preference by consumer
- implementation and organisation of courses and workshops in cosmetic sensory
- correlation of sensorial attributes with instrumental measurements

- studies with the vertical Franz-cell skin model for biological and safety impact
of the formulation on skin delivery and penetration characteristics

- development of cosmetic formulations (leave-on, rinse-off) with focus on
sensorial improvement

- „Think-tank“- project coordination with students for new product ideas with the
bias food/non-food-cosmetics

Performed projects:
o project coordination “nutrient and beauty” for product innovations like functional food (“beauty food”) (2010/11)
o KTI Project „Anti-AGE molecules at 3-D skin model“ (2010/12)
o „African Repellens“ – deputy head of development project with the University
Neuenburg (Switzerland), icipe (Nairobi, Kenya) und Swiss Tropical Institute
Basel (Switzerland), financed by UBS Optimus Foundation (2010/12)
o “Hautpenetration pflanzlicher Wirkstoffe”, an applied research project (ZHAW)
about the penetration of polyphenols (2012/13)
o Statistical modelling tools to predict the sensory perception of leave-on products
from their physicochemical properties: a feasibility study, an industrial Project
with Fraunhofer Institute IVV, Weihenstephan (2014/2015)

and various applied research and development projects with industrial Partners in the domain of sensory Analysis, predictive modelling or formulation.
